Overview
Siouville is the best bet on a huge westerly facing arc of beach on the fickle Channel coast, while still being open to Atlantic swell. It is mostly a fun, beginner-friendly beach with long rolling lefts and rights over sand, plus reefs to the north and south.
It needs specific conditions to really turn on. In bigger swells the sheltered southern reef can get good, and Le Creque in the northern corner can produce quality walling righthanders. Locals compare Siouville to Les Landes when it is really working.
When It Works
The main swell window is southwest to northwest, with southwest as the optimal direction. Siouville works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
It works all year, with autumn, especially September to November, being the best season. Consistency is moderate for the area.
Wind and Tide
The offshore wind direction is east. The spot can also handle a bit of south wind.
Mid to high tide is the main window, with a rising tide better.
Local Tips
Siouville is beginner-friendly and suits shortboards, funboards, fish, longboards, and bodyboards.
It is usually fairly quiet, with the middle of the bay often empty. The lineup can feel reserved, but the general vibe is pretty chilled.
Be careful with rips and currents from the tides. The paddle-out gets hard when it is bigger, and the middle of the bay can feel isolated.
Access
Access is off the D4. There are several parking areas close to the beach, including a car park with free parking and roadside parking.
Restrooms are available, and there is plenty of camping on the peninsula. There is also a nuclear reprocessing plant close to the northern end of the bay, with past public dispute over its impact on local beaches.
