Cartagena - Las Cruces surf guide

Cartagena - Las Cruces is a busy summer resort located along a long stretch of beach. The waves here are generally pretty average, but you can find some fun spots if you look around. The area stretches to a cove known as Las Cruces, which can offer some decent surf when the conditions are right. Expect a mix of beachgoers and surfers, especially during the summer months.

The surf tends to be a beachbreak that can sometimes produce a nice left when the sand banks are built up well. The best results generally come when the swell is coming from the southwest and it can handle sizes as small as 2ft (about 0.6 meters). Most waves break over an uneven reef, so watch out for that. You can catch fun lefts if the conditions align, especially with winds coming from the east, and it works best with mid to high tide. The spot is more suited for intermediate surfers, as the waves often have a bit of speed, but typically they can just be mushy closeouts.

During the summer, it can get crowded, so be prepared to share the waves with other surfers and beachgoers. If you're driving, you'll need to pay for parking as well. Overall, while Cartagena - Las Cruces might not be the most epic surf destination, it's worth a look if you're in the area and looking for some laid-back wave-riding.
