More about Holywell Bay surfspot

Rarely surfed beachbreak, can have good banks if river shapes them up.

General: This pretty, crescent shaped, dune backed beach is somewhat fickle and can either produce fun sandbar lefts or rights, or can be a long closeout. Works when a larger swell is hitting nearby breaks as the southern fringe of the bay, with its twin islands known as Gull Rocks, cuts off lots of swell. A quieter alternative to Newquay. Tides: Breaks through the tides. Size: Thigh to head high. Wind: ESE Swell: W Bottom: Sandy bay. Paddling: Easy when small, rippy when bigger. Spot Rating: A roll of the dice. Either a great, fun escape or a frustrating close-out.

Good for all comers.

There is a National Trust car park a short walk from the beach.

September - February, needs bigger clean swells.

Crowd Factor: Mostly pretty quiet. Local Vibe: Pretty chilled.

Ten minute walk in from parking in the village.

Good.

Rip currents when it gets bigger.
