Overview
La Caffrine is a gentle right-hand reef tucked in behind the St-Leu reef. It breaks over a deep, urchin-covered coral slab, which keeps things mellow enough to serve as a nursery wave for surfers finding their feet.
When It Works
The wave draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft and is moderately consistent, so rideable days show up regularly even if it won't fire every session.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to groom the wave. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This friendly right-hander is well suited to beginners working on their first proper waves. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
