Lido Beach Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Lido Beach is a sand-bottomed beachbreak that, on the right day, ranks among the better spots on the East Coast. It faces due south, and with deeper water sitting offshore it turns into peaks for days when conditions are right. The main peak maxes out at just under double-overhead before it starts to double up and wash through, but it still picks up more swell than nearby Long Beach. The water is generally clean.

When It Works

Lido draws swell from the east through south, and it comes alive on south and southeast swell. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, roughly chest-high up to double-overhead. Both rights and lefts peel off the peaks. Autumn and winter are the seasons to watch, and when everything lines up the quality is genuinely good.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast offshore wind, though the workable wind window runs anywhere from northwest to northeast. It breaks on all tides, but mid tide is best for most swells, with a rising tide the better call.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate-to-expert wave best suited to a shortboard or fish. Expect a busy lineup on good days, when it can get very crowded, and a neutral atmosphere in the water. Show some humility and respect and it stays mellow. Watch for the shallow sand bottom and the rip currents.

Access

There's a large parking lot, with a fee to park from mid-June through early September. Lido usually breaks fairly close to shore, so the paddle out is short.
