Peña Rosa surf guide

Peña Rosa is located furthest out on Punta Negra and is known as the third boulder reef in the area. It's a bit of a trek past Huayaco, which often means fewer surfers show up here compared to other spots. While it's not the most popular wave around, it's worth checking out if you're in the mood for something a bit less crowded.

This spot works best with north-west swells and can handle swells sizes around 3 ft (about 1 meter). You can expect mostly lefts here, along with some short rights that tuck back into the rocks. The waves break over boulders, creating a unique ride. When the conditions align, you might even find some fun, barrelly moments. A little west in the swell helps keep those lefts from getting too mushy, so keep an eye on the forecasts if you want to maximize your session.

Peña Rosa is suitable for intermediate surfers, thanks to the boulder setup. You’ll want to aim for low to mid tides to get the best out of it, and eastern winds can improve your chances pretty significantly. If you’re looking for a quieter spot and you're up for the walk, Peña Rosa can be a decent option for a surf session.
