Spekes Mill is a reef peak that peels both left and right over an uneven reef. The wave quality is about average, but it's a reliable swell-magnet that pulls in plenty of energy, so it rarely sits flat when there's swell around. It does max out easily, so the bigger days tend to overwhelm it.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW), and a west (W) swell lines it up best. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and being consistent, it's a good bet to find something rideable when other spots are quiet.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to groom it. The reef can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high water, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, so factor in some company on the better days.
Access
Getting here takes some effort. The spot hides down a narrow, rough bridle path that's hard to find, followed by a tricky walk down the cliffs and a paddle-out off the rocks. The exit gets difficult at high tide, so plan your session around getting back in. There's camping nearby, plus limited free parking on the bluff above the bay.
