Overview
30th Street (Avalon) is a summer beach break that breaks over sand and peels both left and right. It can get shapely when a northeast swell lines up with the offshore wind. There are usually better options nearby, but it makes a friendly pick for beginners and improvers looking for a manageable session.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), and it comes together best on a northeast (NE) swell. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate, so you will want to time it, but there are worthwhile windows when the setup lines up. As the jetties fill in with sand, the longer pier tends to serve up more sandbars to work with.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean things up. The bank can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly wave, well suited to surfers still finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works.
Access
There are restrooms and a lifeguard on hand, plus a car park with free parking. Beach tag enforcement here is strict, so come prepared.
