40th Street surf guide

40th Street is a surf spot located in Delray Beach, Florida, making it easy to access if you're winding down from Boynton or coming in from 95 on Linton Boulevard. The atmosphere around the east end of Delray Beach is pretty pleasant, with a nice vibe. You have a few breaks to pick from here, with 40th Street being a solid option for surfers looking for something consistent and not overly crowded.

This beachbreak generally works well on all swells and tides but is at its best with a north-northeast swell coming in. You can expect wave sizes ranging from around 1 meter to 2.5 meters (3 to 8 ft), perfect for all types of surfers from beginners to more experienced riders. The waves break left and right over sandy bottoms, and you can ride it with a variety of boards, including shortboards, funboards, longboards, fish, and bodyboards. The paddle out isn't too tough for the most part, and the wind from the west is preferable, making for decent conditions.

Parking is fairly easy to find, though some spots require payment, so plan to arrive early if you can. The crowd factor here is moderate, which is nice since it keeps the lineup from feeling too packed, especially when the surf gets good. The local vibe tends to be mellow, making it a welcoming spot for surfers of all levels. Just keep in mind the usual sea life hazards like sharks, jellyfish, and sea lice while you're out there.
