Overview
72nd Place is a mellow, funky beachbreak peak in Long Beach that breaks over sand and throws both lefts and rights. It can get good, though only now and then.
When It Works
This one only comes to life on a big swell. It draws swell from south through west, and it really wants a sizeable south or southwest swell to start breaking. The working range runs from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is the catch here, so treat it as a spot that rewards patience rather than one you can count on.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean it up. Tide is forgiving, since it works through low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
