Overview
A Street is a sand-bottomed beach break in Saint Augustine, a short drive south of the pier and past 16th Street. It throws both rights and lefts, and the wave is a rolling, long ride that's easy to enjoy. Quality comes and goes with the sand, but when the banks line up it's a fun, decent setup.
When It Works
A Street picks up swell from north-northeast through east to southeast (NNE-E-SE) and breaks on even the smallest days, so there's usually something to ride. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, holding its shape on the bigger days as well as the small ones. The main season runs through autumn, winter, and spring.
Wind and Tide
Look for west-southwest (WSW) offshore wind, with a workable wind window that runs from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW). It breaks across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The lineup stays fairly quiet and can feel a little reserved, so it's an easy place to settle in. It suits everyone from beginners to experts, and it's happy under a shortboard, funboard, longboard, or fish. Paddling out isn't bad most of the time, though it gets more challenging once the surf picks up.
Access
There's a public, free parking lot right at the end of A Street.
