Ahu Ahu Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Ahu Ahu is a mellow reef break that peels over a mix of boulders and sand, offering up both lefts and rights. It's a decent, moderately consistent setup with a laid-back feel, drawing cruisers, SUPers, and the wind crew when a cross-shore west wind is blowing. One thing worth knowing before you paddle out: there was a fatal shark attack in the area back in the '60s.

When It Works

Ahu Ahu is the last spot around here to hold proper shelter from any southerly wind, which is a big part of its appeal. When it's on, you'll find an outside left, an inside left, and a scattering of further peaks breaking over rocks buried in the sand. The outside lefts work best at low to mid tide, while the inside beachbreak comes alive at high tide. It draws swell from southwest to north and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.

Wind and Tide

Look for a southeast offshore wind to clean things up. The reef can work through most of the tide, from low through mid to high, and both rising and falling tides can deliver.

Local Tips

This is a friendly, beginner-suitable wave with a generally mellow vibe in the water. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.

Access

There are restrooms and camping close by, plus a car park with free parking and roadside parking when that fills up.
