Aquin Sandbar is a bending left-hander that sits offshore from Aquin, reached only by boat. It offers some of the best surf along Haiti's south coast, tucked below the hills that shadow the picturesque town. The wave peels over reef and dead coral.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from east through south, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving a decent window across small and mid-sized swells. Consistency is moderate, so the standout sessions come when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind, and keep in mind the wave is sensitive to wind. It breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, which fits given the backwash and rip currents that can kick up in the lineup. Crowds stay quiet, so expect plenty of space when it's working.
