Avoca Beach surf guide

Avoca Beach is a well-known surf spot on the Central Coast of Australia. It's popular among both locals and visitors, attracting surfers of all ages. The beach features a mix of breaks, with the south end being somewhat sheltered from southerly winds, making it a decent choice for a variety of conditions. While it can get crowded, especially at its main break, there's usually a friendly vibe among the surfers.

The surf at Avoca Beach is generally consistent, with good waves coming from a range of directions. The optimal swell direction is from the east, but it can also handle swells from the northeast and south. The beach can work well with swells of around 2ft (0.6m) and breaks over uneven reef and sand. Most of the waves are right-handers, making it a suitable spot for intermediate surfers looking to challenge themselves. During low to high tide, you're likely to find some fun peaks to ride. Just keep in mind that the Point can be a bit more advanced, breaking very close to the rocks, so watch out.

If you're planning to take on the waves at Avoca, be ready for a competitive line-up, especially at the Point. While many surfers are chill, you may want to be prepared for the occasional hassler looking to snag a good wave. Parking is pretty straightforward, with plenty of spots at the central or southern car parks, so you won’t have to stress too much about where to leave your car while you hit the surf.
