Barbers Point surf guide

Barbers Point is located in Kalaeloa near the Campbell industrial park. This surf spot picks up a mix of Southern and Northern Hemi swells, making it a decent place to catch some waves year-round. The area is known for its pretty laid-back vibe and minimal crowds, which can be a refreshing change. Just keep in mind that the right conditions are key for getting the best out of this spot.

The surf at Barbers Point can really vary depending on the swell direction. It works well with southeast to west swells, with the ideal direction being from the west. You can expect wave sizes from around 5 ft (1.5 m) to 10 ft (3 m) here. Lefts and rights break over a dead coral reef, and while the waves can get peaky, they’re best for intermediate surfers. Paddling out takes a bit of effort due to the long distance, but once you're in, you can find some fun waves. The best conditions usually happen when the wind blows from the northeast, and it's workable at low, mid, and high tides.

Access to Barbers Point is easy since it’s located at Barbers Point Beach Park. With plenty of space and minimal crowds, you can enjoy surfing without feeling cramped. Just be aware of the reef, as it can be a hazard, and keep an eye out for sharks. Overall, it’s a spot that offers good variety for different board types, including shortboards and fish.
