Overview
Bat Yam is a beach break that peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand, serving up both lefts and rights. Al Gal and Hagolshim are the beaches worth a look here. Further up the coast, most locals reckon the northwest-facing Bat Galim in Haifa turns out Israel's cleanest waves when southwest storms roll through.
When It Works
Swell arrives from southwest through northwest, and northwest is the direction that lights it up best. The spot works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft, so there's a decent window between too small and too much. Waves show up moderately often, meaning it pays to keep an eye on the forecast rather than turning up on spec.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to clean things up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The waves suit beginners, which is part of the reason the lineup gets busy when it's on. Turn up early if you want space to yourself.
