Blue Horizon Motel surf guide

Blue Horizon Motel is located about an hour's drive east of Pensacola on Okaloosa Island, just between Navarre and Destin. It's a popular summer spot, easy to access, and is right by the beach. To get there, if you're coming from the east, turn left after crossing Brooks Bridge. From the west, head east on Highway 98 and take a left before the bridge. The motel is only half a mile off Highway 98. Look out for the first beach-access parking lot on your left. It’s a neat place to chill out after a day of surfing.

The surf here is generally pretty average, with an inside break that can be fun when conditions line up. You can catch waves that range from waist to head high (about 1 to 2.1 meters). The swell comes from various directions, including the South, SouthEast, and SouthWest, and can handle swell sizes up to 7 feet (2.1 meters). You'll find both right and left waves breaking over sandy bottoms. The paddle out is mellow, making it suitable for all skill levels - from beginners to experts. For the best results, aim for the low to mid tide, and watch for NW to NE winds to make the surf more enjoyable.

Access to the beach is straightforward with a parking lot and a boardwalk leading right to the sand. The crowd factor here is average, and the vibe is generally mellow, but expect some beachgoers around, so be mindful of the occasional drunks. Surfing is best from fall through spring, especially during hurricane season when conditions can get a bit more exciting. Just keep in mind, while it’s a cool spot, nobody is really driving here just to surf.
