Bocana del Cojimies is known for being an off-the-beaten-path surf spot located in Manabí Province, Ecuador. It's not like you can just walk up to the beach and catch waves; the good surf is a bit of a trek. To get to the best breaks, you’ll need to hop on a boat that takes you out a couple of kilometers offshore to find the outer sand banks. This remote setup makes it a place for surfers looking for adventure and willing to put in the effort to score some waves.

The surf here is primarily beachbreaks that favor a NorthWest swell direction. You can expect the surf to handle sizes starting from around 2ft (0.6 meters) and up, with waves breaking over sand. Both lefts and rights are available, giving you some fun options depending on the day. The best chances for good surf are when the wind comes from the East. You can surf here at low, mid, and high tide, but keep in mind that this spot is best suited for expert surfers due to its conditions.

If you’re heading out, be prepared for the challenges that come with it. The area can have strong rips, and it’s a bit of a hardcore mission to get to the surf.
