Brenneckes is a beach break on Kauai's Poipu coast, throwing up lefts and rights over a mix of uneven reef and sand. The tight cove holds punchy peaks, but it's a bodyboarding-only spot, so anyone hoping to stand up should look at the neighboring Poipu Beach breaks instead. Inside Waiohai is a sucky peak that comes alive on higher tide, while First Break serves up outside reef action best left to experts. Beginners can slide over to Lemon Drops for rolling walls over rock and sand.
When It Works
Brenneckes draws swell from southwest to southeast (SW-SE), with south (S) swell the best match for lining up clean peaks in the cove. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so keep an eye on that window when you check the forecast.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The break can work through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
