Brimms Ness - The Bowl surf guide

Brimms Ness - The Bowl is a surf spot located on the most western peak of Brimms Ness. This area is known for its jacking and hollow right-hand tubes, making it suitable only for expert surfers. It’s a shallow and rocky reef, known for its tricky conditions with rips and boils that can make the impact zone quite challenging. If it’s flat at Brimms Ness, it’s most likely flat everywhere else around. The spot can get crowded, especially when the surf is good, so be prepared for that.

The optimal swell direction here is from the north, but it can handle swells coming from the west as well. It works well with swell sizes from around 4ft (1.2 meters), breaking over a rock ledge. The wave types you'll find here are primarily reef breaks, and they peel off to the right. For the best experience, aim for a mid tide and keep an eye on the wind direction, as south winds are preferred. Newer surfers might want to sit this one out – it’s an expert-only zone.

Getting to the spot requires some care since the access can be a bit tricky. You can park either in the farmyard or out on the point, depending on the state of the track and how cool the landowner is feeling. Just make sure to drive slowly as the locals aren’t too fond of fast-moving surfers. Wind can often be an issue here, so check the conditions before heading out. Overall, if you’re looking for a challenge and you have the skills, Brimms Ness - The Bowl can be worth the effort.
