Broughton Bay surf guide

Broughton Bay is a sand point break located in a scenic area known for its natural beauty. This spot works best with a larger SouthWest swell and can be accessed easily by parking outside the nearby caravan park. Keep in mind that it’s important to park respectfully to avoid any hassles.

The surf here tends to be long and gutless, which makes it more suitable for longboarding rather than shortboarding, especially when the swell size is around 2 ft (about 0.6 meters). Waves generally break left over the sand, and while it can be fun, it usually doesn’t pack a punch. For the best conditions, look for a high tide and a SouthEast wind. Just remember, the rip current can be pretty strong, so it’s really not the best place for beginners – intermediate surfers will have the most fun.

When you're planning your visit, be sure to check a swell forecast, as the optimal swell direction is from the SouthWest, but it can also work with West swells. Enjoy your time at Broughton Bay! Just be mindful of the currents and the conditions while you're out there.
