Overview
Broulee is a sand-bottom beach break in the Batemans Bay area with something for every ability. South Broulee is the most popular spot here, known for its consistency and the punchy peaks in the north corner. For experienced surfers, heavier reef waves break off Broulee Island at Pink Rocks and Left Reef, while North Broulee Beach holds more beach peaks. Just north, Mackenzie and Surf Beach offer standard beach peaks closer to Batemans Bay.
When It Works
Breaking over sand, Broulee offers both lefts and rights and is a consistent pick. It draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with east swell the best match, and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. The punchy peaks in the north corner clean up nicely in northeasterly winds.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
There's something for everyone here, including beginners, but expect a busy lineup when it's on. You won't have it to yourself unless you're willing to walk down the beach.
Access
Facilities include restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, and a surf school. For parking, there's a car park with free parking, plus paid and roadside options.
