Overview
Bruce's Beauties is a right-hand point that breaks over uneven reef at Cape St. Francis, made famous as the small longboard wave in The Endless Summer. It shows a very different face today: heavy drops, thick lips, and a line that runs dangerously close to the rocks make it an experts-only wave.
When It Works
When a big east-to-south swell kicks in, the wave comes to life and the local chargers come out for seriously heavy pits that wrap down the long headland. It draws swell from east through south, with east the best direction, and is usable from 1.5 m / 5 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. It can be inconsistent, so the standout days are the ones worth waiting for.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind. The point breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Lower tides paired with a southwest wind can produce a wave to rival Supertubes at J-Bay.
Local Tips
This is a wave for experts only. The heavy drops, thick lips, and proximity to the rocks leave little room for error, so it is best left to surfers who can commit to the take-off.
