Overview
Bude - Crooklets is Bude's busy town beach, a beach break throwing up short, fast sandbar rides over a bottom of uneven reef and sand. Both lefts and rights are on offer. At high tide, Tower Rock can serve up a short-lived, deceptive left when there's swell running, and the shorebreak occasionally steepens and holds up for a proper pummelling.
When It Works
Crooklets draws swell from southwest through northwest, with southwest (SW) the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so there's a decent working window across small and larger days. Expect moderately consistent surf here.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean things up. The beach works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Keep in mind that high tide brings rocks and backwash to contend with.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners finding their feet on the sandbars. It's a busy town beach, so expect plenty of company in the lineup when it's working. A walk north can pay dividends if you want to spread out from the crowd.
Access
There's a pay car park behind the beach next to the skatepark. You'll also find showers, a surf shop, camping, and lifeguard cover on hand.
