Bude - Summerleaze is a sandy beach break sitting right in the middle of Bude, breaking both left and right. It tends to hold the sand well and lines up some rideable rights over at Middle Beach, and the setup offers a bit of wind and swell protection.
When It Works
The sand banks pick up swell from southwest to northwest (SW-NW), and a west (W) swell is the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft. On a solid swell at mid to high tide, a right breaks off the sea-pool and meanders softly toward the rivermouth and harbour. At low tide, look for the speedy left wall that closes out off Barrel Rock.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The peaks here suit intermediate surfers best. Expect a busy lineup and moving water when it's on, so keep an eye on the currents.
Access
You are right in the middle of a big town, so you get the full set of facilities, including a surf school, surf shop, camping, and lifeguard cover. There's a large car park that does fill up, along with free, paid, and roadside parking around town. Water quality can be suspect near the town river.
