Bullies is a heavy, experts-only right-hand reef break. Extra throaty righthanders drive onto the uneven reef with daunting drops and taut tubes to negotiate, and a thumping shorebreak waits to finish off anyone still standing. The water is always moving around, and a set will hand out a serious thrashing to anyone caught inside.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), and lines up best on a southwest swell. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and is moderately consistent.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind. Bullies breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave, and the lineup gets busy when it's on. Further down Boomer Beach towards Chiton you'll find more fickle peaks that can get just as heavy and hollow when the sand is in place, though they don't get as big.
Access
You'll reach it across the train tracks from the car park, which has free parking, with roadside parking as an alternative. Camping is available nearby.
