Caballeros surf guide

Caballeros is a righthand reef located at the north end of Punta Hermosa. This spot is known for its consistent waves, especially during the winter months. It's not as hollow or fast as some of the other breaks in the area, but it offers good potential for long rides. Caballeros attracts surfers looking for fun waves without the heavy crowds typical of other nearby spots.

The waves here are best suited for intermediate surfers and can handle swell sizes from about 5ft to 8ft (1.5 to 2.4 meters). It works well with south to southwest swells, which break cleanly over an uneven reef. When the conditions align—especially with an east wind—surfers can expect long rides as the wave starts with a sucky spurt and then develops into walls and shoulders, leading into some hollow sections on the inside. The optimal tide is mid or incoming, but it can still work at low and high tide, so it’s good to pay attention to tide heights.

Getting to Caballeros is pretty straightforward with an open bay that allows easy paddling around the point. The local vibe is generally mellow, as long as you respect the beach and other surfers. The crowds here aren't usually overwhelming, so you can often snag a few waves without battling for space. Things can get busy on weekends, but you'll still find opportunities along the lineup. Just remember, turning your back to the ocean can be risky.
