Overview
Cabedelo is a fast, hollow right that wedges off the side of a long jetty just to the south of Figueira town. An ex-WCT contest site, this excellent sand-bottom wave is one of the area's real performers when it lines up. Worth knowing before you paddle out: the river brings pollution issues, so keep that in mind when judging the water.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with northwest (NW) swell the best match for the wedge. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, giving it a wide working range from playful days up to solid conditions.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean things up. The wave breaks on low and mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call, so time your session around the push.
Local Tips
Cabedelo suits intermediate surfers. It draws plenty of takers, so expect company in the lineup when it's on. The rips that run along the jetty can actually help you get out, making the paddle more manageable than it might look.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking if that fills up. Facilities are solid: restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand, with camping, a surf school, and a surf shop all nearby.
