Canova Beach surf guide

Surf: Situated at the end of Eau Galle Causeway, this average beachbreak prefers lower tides on a NE groundswell, although with size it will break inside on higher tides. The best of the Indian Harbor Beach stretch. Only average regularity means only average crowds. Surf: General: Indian Harbor Beach’s most obvious surf spot, but rarely crowded, Canova Beach is an average beachbreak benefiting from a coquina/sand bottom but plagued by fickleness compared to its more reliable neighbors, Satellite Beach to the north and Indialantic to the south. Like most Brevard spots, Canova shows its best face on big NE swells. Tides: Tends to be better at lower tides. Size: Knee-high to a few feet overhead. Wind: W Swell: NE Bottom: Coquina and sand, mostly sand. Paddling: Not a problem if you’re patient. Or smart. Or lazy. Spot Rating: Below-average beachbreak, even by Central Florida standards — fast down the line and slow to the beach. Access: Full facilities and easy parking a straight shot off Eau Gallie Causeway. Crowds: Crowd Factor: Randoms come and go, those who stay are spread out. Local Vibe: Nonexistent, no one surfs here two swells in a row. Environment: Between Beach Bill legislation and regular water-quality testing, it’s pretty clean. Historically passed water quality tests at least 95% of the time. Hazards: Sharks, lightning and exposed coquina rock on the inside is a constant nuisance. Season: September-March
