Cap Saint-Louis surf guide

Cap Saint-Louis is a surf spot located in East Marseille that offers a mix of wave conditions for surfers. This place can hold decent swells and is somewhat sheltered from strong Mistral winds. It's a popular spot, so don’t be surprised if you find it a bit crowded, especially when the waves are good. The area around the spot has some rocky sections, so be mindful while you’re out there.

The waves here are primarily right-handers that break over an uneven reef. When the swell is in the right direction, which is preferably SouthEast, you can expect long, wrapping, and hollow rides. Cap Saint-Louis can handle swell sizes starting at 2ft (about 0.6 meters) and is capable of working with bigger swells as well. It’s best suited for intermediate surfers, and the ideal wind direction is from the Northwest. Whether it’s low, mid, or high tide, you can usually find a ride here, although conditions can vary quite a bit.

Keep in mind that due to the competitive crowds, it might be challenging to get a wave during peak times. Also, be aware of urchins in the water and the occasional rip currents you might encounter. If you’re looking for a spot that's more suited for average riders, consider heading to the nearby grande plage des Lecques, which caters better to longboarders and SUP enthusiasts. Parking can be tricky around the harbor of Les Lecques, so plan accordingly.
