Carnon is a sand-bottomed beach break on the Montpellier coast, best known for Les Roquilles on the west side of town. It's one of the most surfed spots in the area, with the port jetty doing the work to shape the wave. You can jump straight off the jetty into the line-up, and it breaks both left and right.
When It Works
The break needs south in the swell to come alive. It draws swell from south as the best direction, with the wider window running from southwest through southeast (SW-SE). It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft, so it favours smaller, playful days rather than serious size. Consistency can be hit or miss, which is a big reason the local crew stays keen whenever it does turn on.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind to clean things up, and keep in mind the spot is a bit wind sensitive, so it rewards patience when the wind cooperates. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a solid pick for intermediate surfers. Expect a busy line-up when it's working, as it's one of the go-to spots around Montpellier. Nearby, the Grande Motte harbour jetty offers a shifting peak that can be high quality when it lines up.

There's plenty of parking, from a car park with free spaces to paid and roadside options. Facilities include restrooms, showers, a campsite, and lifeguard cover.
