Overview
Carquin is a left point that wraps around a hilly headland, breaking over a mix of boulders and sand. The first section can barrel when a solid south swell is running, though the rides stay on the shorter side and an industrial area sits in the background. It lies about 3 km south of Centinela, with shorter waves than its neighbor.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south through west, and a south swell is the best match for lining up that tubular first section. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so you'll find workable days even if it doesn't fire all the time.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's working.
Access
There isn't much right at the break, so most surfers base themselves in nearby Huacho and commute out to Carquin.
