Overview
Catania - La Playa is an A-frame peak that breaks over hard sand in the centre of the gulf, offering both lefts and rights off the same peak.
When It Works
It needs east swell, drawing from northeast through southeast, with southeast (SE) the best match. The peak works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and because it relies on that east swell lining up with the right wind, consistency is only moderate.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. It works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly wave, though the strong currents in the gulf are worth respecting. Expect an uncrowded lineup.
Access
There is a surf shop in town for local wave info, plus free roadside parking. From the centre of Catania, follow signs toward Lido Capannine.
