Overview
Coronation is a fun, reliable beachbreak sitting 5 km (3 mi) off the North West Coastal Highway. Its peaks peel both left and right over sand, and while it can take a bit of size, it stays an easygoing, safe wave.
When It Works
Coronation draws swell from south through west, with southwest the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and holds up consistently when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. The beachbreak can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Afternoon sea breezes tend to blow it to bits, which is when the windsurfers take over.
Local Tips
The gentle, forgiving peaks make Coronation a solid option for beginners. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus restrooms, showers, and camping on hand. It's worth scouting nearby for Oaka's, a decent righthander. Keep in mind that an approved deepwater iron-ore port is set to be built in the area, shifting the surroundings from pristine toward heavy industrial and raising concerns for water quality and the Coronation campground.
