Overview
Crackington Haven is a rocky beachbreak set in a sheltered cove. The cove filters down the swell size and offers rare shelter from north winds, though the waves tend to lack power and shape. Just outside, Cambeak's huge bombora is a spectacle to watch, but it never gets surfed.
When It Works
The waves break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, throwing up both lefts and rights. It draws swell from southwest through northwest, with west (W) swell the best match, and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is moderate, so expect worthwhile windows rather than waves on tap.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly wave. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it fires, often with a tight local crew in the water.
Access
There's a pay car park by the beach, so keep an eye out for clamping. A summer lifeguard, restrooms, and camping round out the facilities, and a cafe and pub sit right by the sand. Bear in mind the river can carry farm pollution and flotsam into the water.
