Crystals sits at the north end of Atlantic City, where a rock jetty meets Absecon Inlet. It's a shallow sandbar peak that sets up close to the jetty, and it won't hold as much size as the breaks just to the south. This is a single peak that can't take a big crowd, but on the days it turns on, everyone in the water tends to get a turn.
When It Works
Crystals is a right that breaks over sand. It draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), and it lines up best on a northeast swell. The break works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so it can handle anything from chest high up to well overhead before it starts to get too big.
Autumn and winter are the seasons to watch. It's moderately consistent through that window, and while it rates below average overall, it can be genuinely fun on the better days.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind to clean up the peak. Crystals can work through most of the tide, across low, mid and high water, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and it's a good fit for both shortboards and bodyboards. Bodyboarders in particular tend to make the most of the steep, short waves here. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, with a somewhat reserved atmosphere. Since it's a single peak that can't hold crowds, waves usually get shared around.

Parking is a mix of free, metered, paid and roadside options, though some of it is restricted, so check signs before you leave the car.
