More about Curren's surfspot
Named after Tom’s epic ride on the long right pointbreak during 1993’s classic conditions. It needs a typhoon to get the spot working but paddling out and catching a wave requires some experience and confidence. Heavy take-off on the outside as it lurches over the corrugated slab reef with big, difficult to thread barrels then pedal to the metal walls all the way down the long line-up towards the harbour. Can be sectiony and messy or epic and perfect depending on swell direction, wind and tide.
It's gotta be big so it is a low consistency wave. Crowded on the tight peak until it gets well overhead when many choose to watch. Plenty of sweep and the reef is nasty - experts only.
