Domburg is Zeeland's premier surf spot, known for hollow, fast waves that break over sandbanks shaped between wooden jetties. It picks up both lefts and rights, and the banks are reliable enough to make it a consistent option whenever there's swell in the water.
When It Works
The banks take swell from southwest through north, with northwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving a decent working window across small and larger days. The jetty-shaped banks accept just about any swell direction and hold up well even with a fair bit of onshore breeze. Domburg also comes alive on southwest windswells, where the side-shore angle adds punch to otherwise messy waves.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to clean things up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Keep an eye on the jetty pilings at higher water.
Local Tips
Domburg is approachable for beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working. The most popular banks sit just south of town, past the golf course, though there's plenty of room to spread out and steer clear of the locals and weekend crowds.
Access
There's a car park with free parking alongside paid parking nearby, plus restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, and a surf school. Sportshop Domburg in town is a well-stocked surf shop with a big range of boards and accessories.
