Doughnuts surf guide

Doughnuts is a surf spot located almost a kilometer to the west of Sardinia Bay. It’s a well-known favorite among bodyboarders, mainly because there’s often a hole in the middle that makes for some fun waves. The sand is nice and sugary, which adds to the overall vibe of the place. The spot generally needs a bit of tide to hold up, so timing your session is key here.

The waves at Doughnuts can be pretty tasty when the conditions are right. The optimal swell direction is from the southeast, but it can also handle swells from the east and southwest. The spot works well with swell sizes starting around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and breaks over soft sand. You’ll find both left and right waves here, making it suitable for different riding styles. The best winds come from the north, and the ideal tide heights are mid to high. This spot is generally suited for intermediate surfers, so if you’re still getting the hang of things, you might want to take it easy.

Offshore at Doughnuts, there’s a spooky left-hander on the Back Reef that some experienced surfers like to check out. It features fast-spinning walls and can offer a bit of a thrill, but it’s really only good at high tide. While this spot can sometimes draw a crowd of locals, being in the water with more experienced surfers can be helpful for spotting any potential wildlife. Just keep an eye on the conditions and enjoy the surf!
