Duranbah (D-Bah) surf guide

Duranbah, commonly known as D-Bah, is located on the north side of the Tweed River, yet it still sits in New South Wales. The border runs along Boundary Street, just above the northern end of the beach. This spot is well-known among surfers for its powerful wedging peaks, thanks to the addition of the rivermouth jetties. D-Bah can hold some impressive waves and is often a go-to for many surfers looking for fun conditions, especially when other spots are flat.

D-Bah picks up swell really well, particularly with optimal swell coming from the east and swells from the northeast and south. It can handle swell sizes starting at around 1ft (0.3 meters) and produces A-frame wedges that are appealing for intermediate surfers. The waves tend to break over sand and can generally be relied on for some decent tube time, though they can also close out quite often. The best action usually happens when the wind is coming from the west and at any tide level—low, mid, or high. However, keep in mind that the crowd can be heavy, so it might make sense to scout out other nearby beaches if you prefer a more relaxed session.

Plus, it's worth noting that D-Bah has a sizeable local crew, so be prepared to share the waves. Over the years, there have been numerous shark incidents in the area, so it's something to keep in mind when you're out in the water. Overall, if you’re up for some fun sessions and don’t mind the crowd, Duranbah could be a solid choice.
