El Olon surf guide

El Olon is a surf spot located in Peru, known for its powerful waves and challenging conditions. Situated in front of Hacienda Pocoma, this place can be a bit intimidating for surfers who aren't prepared. The waves here can pack a punch, making it essential to have proper experience and gear. It’s a beautiful area, but don't underestimate the power of the ocean here.

The waves at El Olon offer long lefts that can get really tubular, especially at the right tide. The spot is known for handling South and Southwest swells, with ideal swell sizes reaching around 6ft (about 1.8 meters). The breaks mainly occur over boulders, so keep that in mind when deciding to paddle out. There's also a shorter right wave that can be just as thick. The best wind direction for surfing here is from the Northeast, and it's best to surf during low, mid, or high tide. This spot is really suited for expert surfers, as the conditions can get pretty wild.

Getting in and out can be tough due to the boulders in the shorebreak. It’s often way bigger than it looks from the road or cliffs, so be ready for that. If you're aiming to tackle some serious waves and enjoy a more remote vibe, El Olon might just be the right place for you, especially when you're equipped for the challenge.
