Overview
El Puerto is a long left pointbreak that peels from the point all the way into the bay, finishing near the base of the pier. It is the best wave the city has on offer, and while it is not world class, nothing else in the area comes close. The bottom is a mix of sand and rock, so expect to bounce off it if you go down. Between sessions, the water can get a bit dirty after rain.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from west-southwest to north (WSW-N) and is usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, with slightly overhead the size it likes best. Autumn and summer are the seasons to watch, and February through April is the window worth planning around. When it lines up, the rides are long, so save some energy for the paddle back to the top of the point.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from east to south (E-S). Low tide is the call here, and a rising tide is generally better than a falling one.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate and expert surfers. A shortboard, funboard, or fish all work. The lineup stays quiet most of the year and the atmosphere is somewhat reserved, though the surfers are cool. The exception is the one contest a year, when the water gets genuinely overcrowded. Keep an eye on your belongings.

You will find it in the fishing complex, or right by the house if you are staying at Maci.
