El Puerto surf guide

El Puerto is a surf spot located near a port area, where surfers can find some action away from the more popular nearby breaks like Alacrán. It's not always crowded, giving you a chance to catch some waves without intense competition. The surrounding environment includes tetrapods, which can create a unique wave setup, but watch out for the backwash and motorized traffic that can affect your ride.

This spot works best with a southwest swell, but you can also ride it with swells coming from the south or northwest. It handles swell sizes up to about 4 feet (1.2 meters). The waves here break over an uneven reef and sand, offering a mix of conditions. You'll mostly find right-breaking waves, which can be fun if you prefer going that direction. For the best surfing experience, try to hit it when the wind is coming from the southeast and during low, mid, or high tides.

While the rights breaking south of El Puerto are not frequently surfed, there are still some decent waves to be found for those willing to explore. Keep in mind that the surf can be a bit inconsistent, so check the swell forecasts and be ready for some variation in conditions.
