Overview
El Puerto is a right-hand reef break that peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It's a rare, quirky setup, hemmed in by tetrapods and dealing with backwash, deep water, and passing motorised traffic. The rights breaking south of the port are seldom ridden, since most of the action in the area happens around Alacrán.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
