Ewa Beach Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Ewa Beach sits just west of Pearl Harbor and offers a variety of smaller wave options, from lefts to rights and barrels to shoulders. It breaks over a reef of lava, rock, and coral, and is usually a mellow, user-friendly wave that turns on when a solid swell is running. Like Barbers Point to the west, it is sensitive to wind.

When It Works

The reef pulls in swell from west-southwest through south-southeast, but the best waves show up on a south to southwest swell. It works from 1.5 m / 5 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, roughly head high to double overhead, and breaks both left and right. Look for it in the warmer months, from spring through autumn and roughly April to October.

Wind and Tide

Calm mornings or a north offshore wind are what you want here, and the workable wind window stretches from west-northwest through north to east-northeast. The spot can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an approachable wave that suits beginners through experts, and it handles just about any board, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, bodyboards, and kiteboards. The lineup is usually quiet, though it can get busier on weekends when a fun-size swell is running. Expect a somewhat reserved vibe, so keep it mellow.

Access

Getting in is easy, with access anywhere from Ewa Beach Park through One'ula Beach Park. Keep the reef in mind, and be aware that big tiger sharks are among the hazards here.
