Ferrel surf guide

Ferrel is a surf spot located near Baleal, known for its long stretches of sandy beaches and consistent waves. The beach features a backdrop of crumbly red sandstone cliffs and offers a wide expanse of golden sand. It stretches miles to the north and is favored by surfers looking for varying wave conditions. Although the area is seeing more crowds lately, it still retains a laid-back vibe that surfers appreciate. Accessing the beach can be a bit tricky, especially after heavy rains, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

The surf here is quite consistent, picking up loads of swell, particularly from the Northwest but also handling SouthWest and North swells. You can expect wave sizes from about 1.2 meters (4 ft) to 2.1 meters (7 ft). Typically, the beach can provide decent waves regardless of the tide, but it’s often best during low to mid tide. The beach breaks can produce both left and right waves, making it suitable for surfers of all abilities, from beginners to more experienced riders. While the surf can be fun, it tends to get blown out easily, especially with south or southeast winds, so check the conditions before heading out.

Be aware that the beach can disappear at high tide, so timing is important. When it comes to equipment, you’ll see a variety of boards in use here, including shortboards, funboards, longboards, fish, and bodyboards. The crowds can pick up, so if you find yourself in a busy session, don’t hesitate to walk further up the beach to find your own peak. The local vibe is decent, though you'll want to show a bit of humility and respect as the area has become more popular.
