Five Islands is a right-hand reef break that breaks hard and hollow over shallow dead coral on the inside. Further out, the wave sets up deep take-offs into fast, racy walls.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. The reef is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and the outside section holds up when the biggest swells roll through.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind. Five Islands works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers.
