Flagler Pier is an above-average pier break over sand that can wedge up and even barrel. On bigger swells it breaks through to high tide, but the rest of the time it behaves more like a shorebreak. Both lefts and rights peel off the sandbars around the pilings.
When It Works
Flagler Pier works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. It draws swell from south to north (S-N), and northeast (NE) is the direction that lights it up best.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call, and it tends to be best on the low incoming push.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and it stays consistent enough that the lineup is often crowded when it turns on. One catch: the good sandbars usually sit within the 150-yard no-go zone on either side of the pier. It is also the home break of four-time world champion Frieda Zamba.
Access
You will find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf shop on hand, plus free roadside parking.
