More about Flagship surfspot
Galveston Island has stable sandbars at Flagship Pier and the adjacent jetties, attracting longboard crowds unless the spot is overloaded by a really large swell. Bowly right back towards the pier and soft left runners down the beach, depending on swell angle.
General: The pier at 25th Street takes its name from its former tenant, The Flagship Hotel. The hotel was severely damaged in 2008 by Hurricane Ike and has since been replaced by an amusement park, Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.

Flagship can produce mediocre-to-good surf, with bowl sections on both sides of the pier. Though shortboardable, Flagship also maintains a strong longboarding sect, and is almost always packed, even when the surf is small or when neighboring beaches are breaking better. Tides: Medium Size: Chest high to a couple feet overhead Wind: N, NW, WNW with swell Swell: S, SE Bottom: Sand. Paddling: Can be a long paddle to the outside and the consistent longshore currents will keep you paddling. Spot Rating: Can hold larger surf than elsewhere in Galveston but usually a little mushy.
Beginner to advanced
Easy, paid parking on the seawall.
Late summer/fall; late winter to mid-spring
Crowd Factor: Usually has a crowd and can get packed. Local Vibe: Relatively positive. Be cool and keep it that way.
The polluted Port of Houston shipping channel runs beside the island and stormwater run-off into the basin is an issue. Gets really crowded with surfers from Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Proximity to Houston shipping channel and runoff from Galveston equals often not the best water quality.
Unskilled surfers in line-up.
