Fletcher's surf guide

Fletcher's is located in Jensen Beach, a bit north of its more famous neighbor, Stuart Rocks. It’s about 400 yards north and has a coral outcropping that can be fun to surf when conditions are right. This spot can be a decent alternative when Stuart Rocks gets too crowded, though it doesn’t offer the same consistency. The access to Fletcher's is straightforward once you navigate through the area, and parking is available for free, though it's good to be mindful of your belongings.

The surf at Fletcher's works best with north-northeast swells, especially when they’re in the 4 to 6-foot (1.2 to 1.8 meters) range. It can handle swells sizes from 4 feet (1.2 meters) all the way up to 10 feet (3 meters). The waves here break over a mix of reef and sand, offering rights and lefts that can peel nicely on a good day. The tides are better during low and the early part of the flood, and while the paddling is usually easy, it can become tougher with bigger swells. The preferred wind directions for better surf are from the south, southwest, and west. This spot caters to surfers of all abilities, from beginners to experts, but you might find it more enjoyable if you're an intermediate or above.

On the weekends, Fletcher's can get a bit busy when the swells are good, but the local vibe remains pretty mellow. The crowd factor here is usually light to moderate, allowing for a more relaxed surfing experience. If you’re planning to hit the waves, remember that the overall quality of the surf can fluctuate, so it’s best to check the conditions first. The spot can definitely have its moments, especially during the fall, winter, and spring seasons, and is worth a visit when other spots are packed or not firing.

Forecast Cheat Sheet

Short on time? Focus on wave energy. It’s the best single metric to gauge how big and powerful the waves will be.

Click any table cell to jump to that forecast hour. The map will update with forecast arrows, so you can see if wind and swell direction are lining up.

Use the table sidebar to switch units for height and speed.

Log your surf sessions to compare forecasts with real sessions and sharpen future predictions.

On the map, click a metric label to bring that arrow to the front — handy when arrows overlap.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Surf Predictions

Our AI-driven algorithm scores surf quality, shown by green, orange, and gray dots. Each forecast hour is rated for wind, swell, and tide quality, then combined into an overall score. Here’s the scale:

Perfect
Good
Average
Bad or No Data

Session logs also feed the algorithm — the more you log, the smarter your forecasts get.

With Surfnerd, no more "you should have been here yesterday"

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
  • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.
